چکیده

The monochromatic aberrations of the human eye limit visual performance to varying degrees. An aberroscope or a Hartman-Shack sensor can measure the total aberrations of the human eye. The aberroscope that is currently being developed at the Centre for Eye Research consists of a grid pattern that is projected on the eye through a specially designed optical system and a camera that records the resulting grid image from the retina. We propose the development of an integrated DSP system that would simultaneously control the projected grid pattern and capture the retinal images. Also, we derive a detection scheme for calculating the centroids of the retinal grid pattern. These centroids are used to determine the wavefront aberration error function of the human eye. The ability to rapidly acquire multiple patternshages increases the accuracy of the monochromatic aberration

ERRATA Calculated impact of higher-order monochromatic aberrations on retinal image quality in a population of human eyes: erratum

We calculated the impact of higher-order aberrations on retinal image quality and the magnitude of the visual benefit expected from their correction in a large population of human eyes. Wave aberrations for both eyes of 109 normal subjects and 4 keratoconic patients were measured for 3-, 4-, and 5.7-mm pupils with a Shack– Hartmann sensor. Retinal image quality was estimated by means of the mod...

Effect of monochromatic aberrations on photorefractive patterns.

Photorefractive methods have become popular in the measurement of refractive and accommodative states of infants and children owing to their photographic nature and rapid speed of measurement. As in the case of any method that measures the refractive state of the human eye, monochromatic aberrations will reduce the accuracy of the measurement. Monochromatic aberrations cannot be as easily predi...

Measurement of monochromatic ocular aberrations of human eyes as a function of accommodation by the howland aberroscope technique

Further development of the objective version of the Howland and Howland [(1976) Science, 193, 580-582; (1977) Journal of the Optical Society of America, 67, 1508-1518] aberroscope technique for measuring ocular aberrations is described. Compensation for refractive corrections and calibration is discussed. The technique was used to investigate the effect of accommodation upon the monochromatic a...

Geometrical theory to predict eccentric photorefraction intensity profiles in the human eye.

In eccentric photorefraction, light returning from the retina of the eye is photographed by a camera focused on the eye's pupil. We use a geometrical model of eccentric photorefraction to generate intensity profiles across the pupil image. The intensity profiles for three different monochromatic aberration functions induced in a single eye are predicted and show good agreement with the measured...

Monochromatic aberrations of human eyes in the horizontal visual field.

We measured the monochromatic aberrations of five subjects' right eyes both temporally and nasally out to 40 degrees from fixation. We used a Hartmann-Shack sensor with modifications to equipment and software to enable off-axis measurements. Results were standardized for 6-mm pupils. There was considerable variation among subjects in the pattern of aberrations. Aberrations were generally greate...
